TermsTerms of use.
A practical description of what you can do with this site, our content, and our open releases — and the few things we ask you not to do. Last updated May 29, 2026.
1. Agreement
By accessing gctexchange.org or interacting with our services (the digest, the donation flow, applications, downloads), you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use the site. These terms are governed by Kenyan law, the jurisdiction in which GCT Exchange is incorporated as a non-profit.
2. Use of this site
You may browse, link to, quote from, and cite this site freely. Please attribute GCT Exchange when you do. Automated scraping is fine in moderation; please respect a 1 req/sec budget and identify your bot in the User-Agent. If you need a higher rate or a bulk export, write to us — we'd rather give you a mirror than have you hammer the site.
3. Content licensing
Unless otherwise marked, text and images on this website are released under CC-BY 4.0. Papers and blog posts are CC-BY 4.0. Datasets and model weights ship with their own license on each release page (typically CC-BY 4.0 or CC-BY-SA 4.0 for data, Apache-2.0 for code and weights). Where licenses differ, the per-release license controls.
4. Trademarks
The GCT Exchange name, the GCT Exchange logo, and the visual identity in use on this site are reserved. You may reference us with the name and mark for editorial, journalistic, or research purposes (no permission needed). Please don't use them in ways that imply endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation without asking us first.
5. Donations
Donations are non-refundable except where required by law. Tax-deductibility depends on your jurisdiction; we issue receipts in the jurisdictions where we are registered to do so. Recurring gifts can be cancelled at any time from the same email address that made the gift.
6. Applications
Applications you send us (for jobs, fellowships, grants, residencies) are held in confidence and reviewed only by the people involved in that decision. We do not share applications with third parties without your written consent. See the Privacy policy for retention details.
7. Open research outputs — no warranty
Models, datasets, evaluation harnesses, and tools released by GCT Exchange are provided 'as is' and 'as available' for research use. We make no warranty as to fitness for any production purpose. Production use is at your own risk and requires your own validation, especially in clinical, financial, or safety-critical settings. Each release ships with a model or dataset card describing intended use, known limitations, and out-of-scope uses; please read it.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, GCT Exchange, its board, its staff, and its fellows will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of this site, our content, or our research outputs. Our total liability, where it cannot be excluded, is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the prior 12 months, or (b) USD 100.
9. Indemnification
If you misuse our content, our trademarks, or our research outputs in a way that causes us to face a third-party claim, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against that claim, including reasonable legal costs.
10. Acceptable use
Don't use this site or our outputs to break the law, harm others, infringe rights, attempt to deanonymise individuals in our datasets, or build systems intended to surveil or harm vulnerable populations. Our independent Ethics Chair may delay or revoke access to specific releases where they reasonably believe misuse is occurring.
11. Third-party links
We link to external sites we find useful or are obliged to credit. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content. A link is not an endorsement.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be summarised at the top of this page with the revision date and announced in the next monthly digest. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
13. Severability & contact
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in force. Questions, takedown requests, or licensing queries: legal@gctexchange.org.
